How Can I Help?I use cognitive therapy as an effective treatment for depression. This treatment is based on the idea that the way we feel is determined largely by how we think and view our world. Cognitive therapy teaches you to recognise and challenge upsetting thoughts, helping you to think more realistically and improving the way you feel. It is not another form of positive thinking. When you are depressed you tend to starting thinking in very negative terms and in ways that an not factual. We all have negative thoughts but during depression the balance of negative thoughts to positive increases to the point of taking over. I will help you to:- · Recognise the thoughts that affect how you feel · Teach you to question whether negative thoughts are realistic · Help you to replace these thoughts with more helpful and realistic ones · Help you to change your behaviour |
