I hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling Supervision and supervise both in private practice and for Relate. I have a wide range of experience,working with adults, couples and young people in a range of settings, including charities, on employment assistance programmes and for private companies. I offer supervision to counsellors-in-training as well as qualified and accredited practitioners. Supervisees are required to be a member of a professional body and adhere to a relevant Code of Ethics and Practice and Complaints Procedure.
My supervision model is integrative and is based on the work of Hawkins and Shohet. .
Supervision, in my view, should give supervisees opportunities to:
- Have regular support from a supervisor in an atmosphere of integrity and openness
- Identify areas in which to maximise their effectiveness
- Consider ethical issues and boundaries and further develop their ethical mindfulness
- Challenge and be challenged and identify the learning from it as well as to receive constructive feedback
- Seek help with any decision making necessary
- Develop their own self-awareness and to have space to re-vitalise.
